Portable Appliance Testing

Testing to the standards set in the IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment. Every appliance is thoroughly assessed and documented.

  • Formal visual inspection of all appliances
  • Earth continuity test (Class 1 equipment)
  • Insulation resistance test
  • Polarity check (extension leads and power leads)
  • RCD trip time test
  • Function check
  • Damaged plug-tops replaced
  • Fuses replaced to correct appliance rating
  • Unique barcoded ID number for each appliance
  • Pass or fail label with date of test and engineer details

Note: Equipment with a separable power lead (IT equipment, for example) requires two tests — one for the detached lead and one with the lead connected. This follows the latest IET PAT Testing Guidelines, as power leads are often mixed between devices.
